North Perth launches Façade Improvement Program for downtown businesses starting June 1st

The Municipality of North Perth will be launching a Façade Improvement Program on June 1st, 2021. This program will offer grants to business and property owners in the downtowns of Listowel, Atwood, and Monkton to renovate and improve their storefronts.

Municipal staff have worked closely with business owners and community members to develop a program that will support North Perth’s thriving local economy and improve the quality of life for residents.

The Municipality has developed Downtown Commercial Design Guidelines, which will accompany the Façade Improvement Program. This document gives guidance to downtown businesses about appropriate improvements that could be made to properties in the downtown, to enhance the characteristics of our downtowns that make them unique.

“Downtowns can be dynamic spaces that strongly support quality of life and attractiveness for community growth,” said Todd Kasenberg, Mayor of North Perth. “I’m really delighted with this fulsome first program in our Community Improvement Plan. It represents an investment from this Council in the charm and beauty factor of our communities. We are growing. We mustn’t neglect our esthetic in that growth. I eagerly anticipate the many benefits that will come to our local economy and the creation of handsome places promoting social interactions through this plan and program.”

The Municipality will be accepting applications for the Façade Improvement Program starting June 1st. Funding for this program is limited, so those interested in the program should contact CIP Project Planner, Lee Barich by phone (519) 444-4222 or email lbarich@northperth.ca. Businesses can find the application form and program information on the Municipal website under the “Incentives and Funding” page: https://www.northperth.ca/facade-improvement-program/

By supporting this program, the Municipality is committed to ensuring that our downtown communities are welcoming and engaging destinations for residents of North Perth. The Municipality would like to note that this program has been made possible with the assistance of the Listowel BIA and the OMAFRA Rural Economic Development fund.
