Municipal Clerk Announces Retirement

With 2021 marking 43 years of dedicated service with the Municipality of North Perth and the former Town of Listowel, North Perth’s Municipal Clerk, Patricia Berfelz, has announced her intention to retire effective February 2022.

“Pat Berfelz is just this larger-than-life figure in our Corporation and community,” said North Perth Mayor Todd Kasenberg. “She has been a joy to work with, and a fountain of knowledge. I particularly appreciated her care and dedication to supporting me, as a newcomer to Council, on the assumption of the Chair. Pat’s knowledge, wit, energy, dedication and advice will be sorely missed. I do, of course, join the throng of those who will say thank you, and I extend best wishes to her and Bill as they embark on their retirement journey.”

Pat began her municipal career at the Listowel Day Care Centre in May 1978, starting out as a child care provider. Her natural leadership abilities were recognized, and she become the Manager of the Listowel Day Care Centre. During her many years at the Centre, Pat provided top quality child care to countless local families, many of which she has maintained friendships with to this day.

In 2002, Pat made the switch from the child care centre to the municipal administration office, taking on the role of Deputy Clerk and was later promoted to the role of Municipal Clerk. As the Municipal Clerk, Pat has been responsible for the administration and management of the Clerk’s Department including the Building and Planning departments. Until the creation of the Programs Department in 2021, Pat was also responsible for the administration and management of child care services in North Perth.

The Clerk’s Department, and all associated departments, have flourished under Pat’s leadership. She has smoothly overseen multiple municipal elections and hundreds of council meetings, and has successfully worked side by side with numerous elected officials throughout her career. She personally supervised some notable construction during her tenure, including the North Perth-Spinrite Child and Family Centre, St. Mary’s Child Care Centre and the Monkton Child and Family Centre.

“It has been an honour to work alongside a Clerk with such vast institutional knowledge and dedication to her community” shares Kriss Snell, North Perth Chief Administrative Officer. “It has been a pleasure to work with Pat during my time as both Clerk and CAO of North Perth and I wish her all the best in her much-deserved retirement”.
