Multiple long-serving staff retirements announced in 2021

The new year will look quite different for many departments within the Municipality of North Perth, with 2021 marking the end of an era for many long-serving municipal employees. Since the beginning of the year, six Municipality of North Perth employees, each with at least 20 years of service, have announced their retirement.

North Perth Fire Chief, Edward Smith retired in October 2021. Smith was a volunteer member of the Elma Logan Fire Department for 24 years before becoming the first Fire Chief in the newly-amalgamated Municipality of North Perth in October 2001.

Deputy Clerk Danette Beare retired in October 2021. Beare started her municipal career in the former Township of Wallace in 1997, and continued her employment with the newly- established Municipality of North Perth following amalgamation.

Craig Neabel, Equipment Operator, retired in October 2021. Neabel started his municipal career in the former Township of Wallace in 1992, and continued his employment as an Equipment Operator with the newly-established Municipality of North Perth following amalgamation.

Angie McCracken, Early Childhood Education Assistant, retired in October 2021. Angie started her career at the Listowel Day Care Centre in 1986. Angie worked at the Listowel Day Care Centre/North Perth Day Care Centre, moving to the North Perth-Spinrite Child and Family Centre when it opened in 2016.

Municipal Clerk, Patricia Berfelz recently announced her intention to retire effective February 2022. Berfelz started in 1978 at the Listowel Day Care Centre, and has also worked as the Deputy Clerk and Municipal Clerk for the Municipality of North Perth.

Bonnie Berlett, Public Works Operations Assistant, recently announced her intention to retire effective January 2022. Berlett began her career with the former Township of Wallace, and transitioned to the Municipality of North Perth following amalgamation.

”Retirements always bring mixed feelings – feelings of happiness and best wishes for our colleagues who are departing, and feelings of loss that come from not having their daily presence amongst us in our work and fun,” noted Todd Kasenberg, Mayor of the Municipality of North Perth. “These fine people have shown great commitment, always above and beyond, to our community and corporation. Their shining presence in our workplace have made significant contributions to culture and effectiveness. We wish them only the best as they move forward into other ventures and phases of their lives.”

“I wish all six of these retirees all the best in their much-deserved retirement” shares Kriss Snell, North Perth Chief Administrative Officer. “I want to thank each of them for the dedication, hard work, knowledge and expertise they have demonstrated throughout their time with the Municipality.”
