Free Menstrual Product Pilot Launched at the North Perth Public Library

PRESS RELEASE Oct 31 2022 Menstrual Products FINALFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Through funding from the Friends of the North Perth Public Library, the North Perth Public Library is ending October, Canadian Library Month, with the launch of a pilot program to provide free menstrual products in library spaces for all menstruating people.

“We believe that all women should have access to feminine hygiene products without being concerned about finances or dignity” says Friends President Tracy Weber.

Community members will be able to navigate to universal and/or female washrooms in the Listowel, Monkton, and Atwood libraries to access the free menstrual products with a goal of reducing barriers and combatting period poverty.

“The North Perth Public Library’s new strategic plan sets a strategic priority to examine barriers to participation in our community and work to eliminate them. This project is the first step.” Interim CEO Ellen Whelan comments.

The pilot project launches October 31. Costs will be tracked with the goal of expanding the project to more publicly accessible Municipal buildings.
