Essential municipal construction projects to continue

Watch Mayor Todd Kasenberg's Construction Update on the North Perth YouTube channel.

The Municipality of North Perth strives to make our community better and safer. Many of the Public Works construction projects included in the 2020 municipal budget, approved by North Perth Council on March 23rd, help achieve this goal.

On April 3rd, the Province of Ontario updated its list of Essential Workplaces and mandated the closure/inactivity of certain types of non-essential construction sites. It is the understanding of the Municipality of North Perth that several of its capital construction projects are included on the essential workplaces/services list and are therefore able to continue at this time.

The Province of Ontario, through its “Stop the Spread” guideline list, in Item #28, has indicated that “construction projects and services required to ensure safe and reliable operations of, or to provide new capacity in critical provincial infrastructure, including …transportation” are essential and listed.

The Municipality has consulted with the provincial “stop the spread” information service as well as the Association of Municipalities of Ontario. The Municipality has confirmed that the following construction projects are considered essential and work will continue:

  1. Albert Street Storm Trunk (Contractor has mobilized and is on site)
  2. Kincaid Intersection improvements (Contractor has mobilized and is on site)
  3. Reconstruction of Line 84 (Project tenders to be released in April)

Construction work will also move forward on the Line 81 Bridge reconstruction and the annual program for Maintenance Gravel and Calcium will continue.

Municipal Staff will work with consultants and contractors to ensure that all safety precautions are kept, as outlined by the province, so that works may and will continue.

The Core Traffic Congestion Trial project in downtown Listowel is delayed until traffic conditions return to normal levels.

Construction work on the Monkton Child Care Centre/Library Relocation and the St. Marys Child Care Centre has paused at this time.
