Building Code Compliance in North Perth

North Perth, April 19, 2024 – The Municipality of North Perth works diligently to ensure that all construction projects within our jurisdiction adhere to the Ontario Building Code (OBC). The OBC serves as a cornerstone in safeguarding the health, safety, and structural integrity of buildings. The Municipality of North Perth is required by the Province of Ontario to ensure compliance with the OBC for all building activities in the community.

The Municipality’s role is to review and issue building permits, conduct inspections during construction and issue compliance orders when necessary.  The review and inspection processes adhere to the provincially mandated timelines.

All projects must be compliant with the OBC provisions, zoning, and other applicable regulations. During the review process applicants are informed in a timely manner of the items required for them to meet compliance.

The Municipality is aware of concerns in the business community regarding adherence to OBC standards and provincially mandated building processes. The Municipality of North Perth remains committed to transparency, efficiency, and above all, the health and safety of our community members. We encourage open dialogue and collaboration to address any concerns and ensure that our procedures align with the highest standards of building safety and regulatory compliance.

The Province has established the Building Code Commission. The Commission resolves disputes on:

• whether technical requirements of the Building Code are followed in a building or structure (compliance)
• time periods for site inspections
• time periods for processing permit applications
