4-Gas Monitors are now available at NPPL Branches
North Perth, April 11, 2025 – The Municipality of North Perth is pleased to announce that 4-gas monitors are now available for loan at the North Perth Public Library’s (NPPL) three branches. These portable, handheld, battery-powered devices will be available to borrowers at no cost, equipped with step-by-step instructions on their usage.
The 4-gas monitors detect the presence of four critical gases: oxygen, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, and combustible gases. They provide real-time gas level readings and emit alarms when unsafe gas levels are detected, offering an essential tool for safety in various environments, particularly those that are confined spaces.
This initiative was presented at the North Perth Council meeting on December 16, 2024, where council members approved proactive and cost-effective strategies to enhance the safety and education of the farming community concerning grain bin and silo incidents.
The Municipality has acquired six 4-gas devices as part of a broader strategy that includes:
- Promoting affordable confined space awareness and lockout/tagout training sessions through Set7;
- Collaborating with the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA);
- Preparing Public Safety Announcements focused on grain bin safety.
By making these devices readily available, North Perth aims to mitigate the risks associated with grain bin and silo incidents, ensuring the continued safety of its community members.
