Pool Enclosures

The pool permit is for the enclosure, not the pool itself.

Please read By-Law 75-2008 – Swimming Pool and Fence By-Law for full details about the permit requirements.

Specifications for Pool Enclosure

Showing proposed enclosure including all dimensions and details of the enclosure, gates and hardware.

Height: Minimum 1.53m (5 feet) from outside ground level.
Vertical and Horizontal Members: Vertical gaps cannot exceed 100 mm (4 inches).
Chain Link Fences:  Openings must not allow objects larger than 38 mm (1.5 inches) to pass through.  If the horizontal structural members are more than 114.3 cm (45 inches) apart, they can be placed on the **outside** of the enclosure.
Compliance: Must meet Ontario Building Code standards. Provide full details of fence and gate location/type when submitting plans.

This is part of the Cloud Permit Process and done through the software, no additional document is required when submitting through CloudPermit

Please see the property layout drawing for standard information required within the property layout drawing.  Below is additional information required for pools:

a. showing the location of the proposed swimming pool and proposed landscape features in relation to property lines, buildings, and easements, all proposed swimming pool equipment (such as filters, slides and heaters)

b. Providing complete details of the proposed swimming pool enclosure, including the location and type of proposed fence and gate

c. showing the proposed access route for construction of the swimming pool enclosure from any public right-of-way to the proposed swimming pool location

Identifies the responsible party for the construction project, ensuring accountability.

a. If property owner is taking accountability, please fill out the form and reason for exemption is “homeowner” and BCIN not required.

b. If 600 meters squared (1968 square feet) or larger, not needed and commitment to general review form is required

Ensuring the current property owner grants permission to either construct themselves or to have another party, such as a contractor or builder, to apply for and manage a building permit on their behalf.
