About the BIA
The Listowel Business Improvement Area is a not-for-profit organization established for the main purpose of fostering a thriving business community. We are designated as a Business Improvement Area (BIA) through the Ontario Municipal Act and a Municipality of North Perth bylaw.
The Listowel BIA is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors consisting of up to 12 members. It includes representatives from the business community, property owners, Municipal staff and a Municipal Council representative. Board Directors serve a two-year term. In 2015, the Listowel BIA hired its first part-time Coordinator to help to carry out the marketing and promotional activities.
The BIA is funded by a levy placed on the property taxes of each commercially assessed property within the designated boundaries. The budget is presented at the Annual General Meeting each year for discussion and once passed by the Board, submitted for final approval by the Municipal Council.
The Listowel BIA thrives with the support and participation of property and business owners. There are several ways to get involved - via the Board of Directors and other committees such as Marketing and Beautification.
The Listowel BIA is currently working on several initiatives including strategic planning to develop a roadmap for the activities of the BIA for the next 2-3 years. The Listowel BIA Facebook Page Discover Listowel is gaining momentum and will be used to promote all the business community has to offer. The Listowel BIA maintains the four grand entrance signs to the community, the street banners in the downtown area, and the annual flowers and seasonal decorating throughout the designated area. It is activiely marketing the area through newspaper and radio advertisements with to goal of enticing more customers and more businesses.
